DYNAMIC HOST BLACKLIST
I received an error message when sending an email to a Lightspeed picoMail user. What is going on? (DYNAMIC HOST BLACKLIST)

Answer

The email that you sent to a Lightspeed picoMail user has been returned with an error message referring you to this website. This means that the IP address of the mail server that was used to send your emails has been defined by your provider as being a dynamic IP address. This IP address or address range has been blacklisted by Lightspeed because of spamming/

A dynamic IP address is an IP address that is temporarily assigned by an ISP (Internet Service Provider) to a user who isn't permanently connected to the Internet.

Spamming is the unsolicited sending of (usually commercial) emails to a user or group of users. Blacklisting is the systematic refusal of all emails coming from a specific mail server, network, or domain.

Blacklisting is one of the measures that Lightspeed is taking in order to protect the networks we manage and their users against spamming.

How can I solve this problem?

If you connect to the Internet using a dynamic IP address then we advise you to send your outgoing emails via your ISP's (Internet Service Provider's) relay server. Such a server is also commonly known as a "smarthost". For more information about this kind of services we advise you to contact your ISP's helpdesk or support site.

If you use a fixed/static (not dynamic) IP address then we advise you to contact your Internet Service Provider, or network or server administrator and to send them the error message that you received as well as the link to this website. Your administrator or ISP can then take the necessary steps in order in order to remove you from our blacklist.

I am an Internet Service Provider, network administrator or server administrator. How can I solve this problem?

Lightspeed has included the range of dynamic P addresses that your user is connected with in our blacklist after receiving SPAM from one or more IP addresses in this range.

Dynamic IP addresses are an important source of spam because of security issues (viruses, open-relay mail servers, open proxies, Trojans,...). If your users are connected to the Internet via a dynamically attributed IP address then we advise you to let them send their outgoing email via your relay server or "smarthost".

If your users are connected to the Internet via static (fixed) IP addresses then we advise you to modify the reverse DNS lookup of these IP addresses so that it is clear that the range in question is used for static (fixed) IP addresses. This can be done by including the terms static or fixed in the reverse, or by using as server name (e.g. mail.domainname) as reverse. After this modification the IP address will automatically be removed from our blacklist.
